CARPENTER NATURE CENTER - OAK SAVANNA RECREATION
Carpenter Nature Center's 720-acre private nonprofit nature preserve and education facility is located three miles northeast of Hastings near the confluence of the Mississippi and Saint Croix rivers. In fall 2001, GRG, Friends of the Mississippi River and Carpenter Nature Center organized volunteers to convert a 5-acre cornfield adjacent to a 100-acre prairie and wooded river bluffs into a woodland of native trees and prairie openings.
