HIGHWOOD PARK PRESERVE - OAK WOODLAND RESTORATION AND MANAGEMENT PLAN
GRG has worked closely with the city of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Division and the District 1 Community Council, with federal and MN DNR support, to begin to restore Highwood Park Nature Preserve, one of Saint Paul's newest parks, to original oak forest and oak woodland with prairie openings.
GRG conducted an ecological inventory and developed a restoration and management plan for this site. GRG and city crews removed invasive woody species from the site in 2000 and the winter of 2001. In spring 2001, community volunteers and Macalester College alumni planted native trees and shrubs. First-year Macalester students volunteered in fall 2001 to remove more invasive species from the park.
Funded in part by the
Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, as recommended by the
Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources.
