SPRING LAKE PARK - DRY PRAIRIE AND BLUFF PRAIRIE RESTORATION
This Dakota County Regional Park contains rare and high-quality prairie remnants. GRG is helping county land managers keep these sites healthy. The bluff prairie, located hundreds of feet above the Mississippi River, offers a stunning north-facing view of the valley. GRG hosted a prairie plant identification training for volunteer supervisors at the bluff prairie in fall 2001. The dry prairie site is surrounded by forest and hosts a rare plant, kitten-tails. The GRG field crew has removed Tartarian honeysuckle and other exotic species and cut firebreaks in preparation for controlled burns to promote growth of the prairie species.
