WEST SIDE BLUFF COMMUNITY-BASED BLUFF VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PLAN
Saint Paul's West Side Bluff offers impressive views of downtown Saint Paul and the Mississippi River Valley. The bluff vegetation is widely variable: Some areas are highly disturbed from years of cutting for timber and vistas, erosion is extensive and exotic species have invaded. In contrast, the western portion of the bluff, near Cherokee Park, harbors a large oak forest remnant and a small dry prairie remnant. GRG worked closely with the Bluff Task Force of the West Side Citizens Organization and the city of Saint Paul to complete an ecological inventory and restoration and management plan in 2001 for the city-owned blufflands, focusing on guiding the city's management of the disturbed areas. Check out the detailed maps and management recommendations for this project!)
GRG, Saint Paul Parks and the Bluff Task Force are planning to conduct an inventory and management plan for the higher-quality oak forest and dry-prairie remnants.
