Volunteer

As Minnesota’s leader in nature-based climate solutions through land restoration, Great River Greening has engaged our communities in restoring approximately 40,000 acres at nearly 400 sites throughout Minnesota.

Through our volunteer events, individuals, families, or groups help us restore Minnesota’s natural areas by removing invasive plants or planting native species. We offer a variety of opportunities throughout Minnesota for all ages and skill levels.

Volunteer Opportunities

Join us at a Public Event

Each spring and fall, we host 4-8 free volunteer events that are open to all, including small groups. Typically held Saturday mornings or weekday evenings, our volunteer events are family-friendly, no prior experience is necessary, and all tools are provided.

Organize a Private Event

Is your group or company interested in a private volunteer experience? Great River Greening offers donation-based private volunteer events for groups wanting a more customized restoration experience to give back to the community and boost team morale.

Private weekday events require a sponsorship to cover the costs and support Great River Greening’s community outreach, engagement, and volunteer efforts. Our team will work with you to customize your exclusive 3-4 hour event.

Each year, Great River Greening engages thousands of volunteers in land restoration projects. We rely on our Volunteer Supervisors to help ensure our events run smoothly. As a Volunteer Supervisor, you’ll gain tangible restoration, communication, and leadership skills while helping cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards.

Volunteer as a Photographer

Without our team of talented volunteer photographers, we wouldn’t be able to truly share the impact of our work. Our photographers capture the energy at our events—from the smiles on volunteer faces to the striking before and after images of a restored habitat.

If you are interested in expanding your photography portfolio, gaining some recognition through our shared stories, and putting your talent to work in support of preserving Minnesota’s green spaces, please reach out to Jessica Drummond at jdrummond@greatrivergreening.org.
