Great River Greening works with landowners who have property easements along Wild & Scenic designated rivers to restore natural beauty of the land and improve water quality. The William and Janet Plessel property is an example of this work. Greening’s ecologists are working to enhance the streambank along the Rum River by thinning prickly ash thickets and downed trees. Last Saturday, volunteers from the community assisted by planting trees and shrub seedlings.
The Rum River is designated as wild, scenic and recreational by the State of Minnesota. It is a popular canoe, kayak, fishing and camping trail. There are 117 landowner parcels where landowners have protected their properties.
