Frogtown Park Restoration Project

General Info

Great River Greening works to engage volunteers in the restoration of public spaces in Minnesota. Our project focuses on restoring Frogtown Park into healthy, resilient habitat that supports wildlife, inspires outdoor recreation, and strengthens the ecosystem. This includes removing invasive buckthorn and planting areas with native grasses and wildflowers.

Updates & Project Timeline

Fall 2022: Great River Greening, with support from Frogtown Green stewards, removed buckthorn using organic methods (ensuring the Frogtown Farm was not impacted).

Spring 2023: Volunteers continued restoration efforts by pulling, girdling, and bagging invasive buckthorn to keep it from re-sprouting. Later in the season, volunteers planted 1,300 native prairie plants to enhance the existing pollinator garden spaces. These pollinator-friendly flowers, shrubs, and woodland plants will replace the invasive buckthorn that was recently removed. These efforts will enhance the oak woodland and native gardens at the park to benefit pollinators and visitors alike!

Summer 2023: Mark your calendars for July 13! Join Great River Greening and Frogtown Green for a community celebration at Frogtown Park and Farm. Come celebrate our restoration of this wonderful urban natural area and get re-introduced to this gem of a park.

This FREE event will feature food, nature-based learning opportunities, and fun community games.

Join us on Thursday, July 13, 5:30-8:00 pm

Free street parking is available surrounding Frogtown Park and Farm. We recommend parking on or near the east end of the park on Victoria Street, though there's ample parking all around.
