Healthy Waters Initiative
Why It Matters
Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, wetlands, and watersheds sustain our way of life — but they face threats from erosion, pollution, and changing climate conditions. Protecting these waters requires more than one organization — it takes a shared commitment and community action.
How it works
This partnership will focus on five high-impact sites across the Twin Cities metro area:
Creekside Park (Carver) and Valley Park (Mendota Heights), where stabilizing eroding streambanks will reduce sediment and pollution flowing into the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers.
Wood Lake Nature Center (Richfield) and Loeb Lake (Saint Paul), where restoring native shorelines will naturally filter runoff and protect important urban lakes.
Bass Lake Preserve (St. Louis Park), where transforming degraded urban land into thriving native habitat will enhance water quality, boost flood resilience, and provide essential green space.
Funding support for this initiative is provided by Uponor, the Minnesota Twins. Additional funding is provided by XX.
Uniting Communities to Protect Minnesota’s Clean Water
Clean water is one of Minnesota’s most vital resources — connecting our health, communities, and future. That’s why we created the Healthy Waters Initiative, a bold effort led by Great River Greening, with support from the Minnesota Twins and Uponor, to restore critical lands, improve water quality, and build healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.
The Healthy Waters Initiative brings together three Minnesota leaders:
Great River Greening, known for its statewide conservation leadership and community-driven land restoration efforts.
Uponor, a GF Building Flow Solutions brand with North American headquarters in Apple Valley and a global innovator in sustainable water solutions.
The Minnesota Twins, with their nationally recognized environmental stewardship platform.
Together, we’re tackling local water quality challenges at scale while empowering people to care for the places and waters that sustain us all.
