Living Legacy Trees

For only $25, you can give a gift that lasts for decades.

Your gift of a Living Legacy Tree will support Great River Greening’s ongoing land-based restoration by:

  • Restoring resilient landscapes

  • Addressing critical biodiversity loss, and

  • Increasing carbon sequestration and storage.

Whether you wish to give a Living Legacy Tree in honor or in memory of someone, your thoughtful gift will have a direct impact on Great River Greening project sites across the state of Minnesota.

Here’s how the Living Legacy Tree program works:

  • Complete the Living Legacy Tree order form on the sidebar (desktop) or below (mobile) and we’ll send your loved one a commemorative card and information about Great River Greening’s work to restore forests and efforts to improve urban/community tree canopies throughout Minnesota.

  • You get to choose the recipient of the Living Legacy Tree card, whether it’s the loved ones of the honoree or the honoree directly.

  • What if you want to donate multiple Living Legacy Trees?

    • If you want to donate multiple trees for the same recipient, fill in a custom donation amount ($25 per tree; 2 trees = $50; 3 trees = $75; 4 trees = $100; etc.) and fill in the form for your one recipient.

    • If you want to donate trees to multiple recipients, you may either submit the form once for each recipient, or contact us at greening@greatrivergreening.org to coordinate larger orders of Living Legacy Trees.

Please note: because of postage costs we can only send physical cards within the United States. Additionally, if you’d prefer an electronic notification rather than a printed and mailed card, please let us know.

If you have any questions, please contact greening@greatrivergreening.org.

Why oak trees?

Considered a powerhouse in the conservation world, oak trees protect water quality, sequester carbon, and support the wildlife that call these habitats home.

Oak savannas—a community of prairie grasses, wildflowers, and scattered oak trees—are a crucial, yet diminishing, habitat across our state. Without oak savannas, Minnesota’s natural areas, including our wildlife, rivers, and parks, are under serious threat.

With your donation, you are gifting a natural legacy in a loved one’s name—imagine exploring a natural landscape 25 years from now and knowing that your gift lives on.
