Biochar Cost Share Opportunities

Explore the options below and submit a form to find out if you qualify for Great River Greening’s Biochar Cost Share Opportunities.

Option 1: Demonstration Site 

Great River Greening is seeking outstate landowners to co-host a biochar demonstration day. There is no charge for 1-day of charring including Great River Greening equipment and staff. Landowners must stage the waste wood beforehand and help recruit for the demonstration day. Funded by ENRTF & MPCA.

Option 2: Camp Ripley Sentinel Landscape (CRSL) Location 

If you live within the CRSL area (Morrison County, SW Crow Wing County, S Cass County, NE Todd County) you can borrow one Oregon kiln free of charge; deposit required, transport not included. Funded by Morrison SWCD with federal Readiness and Environmental Protection Initiative (REPI) funds.

Option 3: Farmers 

Great River Greening has funds to increase the use of biochar on farms. If you are a farmer and have waste wood and a use for biochar in your production, fill out the form below to let us know. We have funds to offset delivery and time to talk with you about how to get started. Funded by MPCA.

Option 4: Outdoor Heritage Fund recipient 

If your site has received funds from the Outdoor Heritage Fund, you may be eligible for use of one Big Box Kiln, with dedicated trailer with no equipment rental charge. Damage deposit required.  

Your biochar processing may also be eligible for a reduced fee on subcontracted assistance. You can also hire Great River Greening staff to operate the kilns and/or to oversee the biochar operations.  

Partners in Great River Greening’s OHF programs - Anoka Sand Plain, Sauk River Watershed, Metro Big Rivers, and Cannon River Watershed – receive priority consideration. Funded by Outdoor Heritage Fund.
